BRAVO!! There IS sill a NON-JUNK hand held stapler!!!

I usually wouldn't get so excited over something as seemingly mundane a hand held stapler, but I used to have a really solid-feeling one (brand unknown) that reliably stapled sheets with a crisp snap, and an easy push would ALWAYS create a tight bond with no jams. And NO need to "push it just right." But I lost it 15 years ago, and since then keep trying the "feature laden," shoddy-feeling pieces of crap from the big-name office stores. It's all I could find. Even when I would get one that seemed to be working maybe 75% as well as my trusted lost hand held (though with a less-solid feel), within six months I'd be struggling with "bonds" where the staple didn't fold, repeated jams, and then springs would start falling out -- crap, crap, crap crap.
When I recently finally threw up my hands at the nearly-worthless piece of junk my latest (from OfficeMax as I recall) had become, I started searching. Then I saw this Skilcraft, which is a bit more expensive and FAR, FAR harder to locate than the "big name" junk. Seems that most of the few sites that carry it don't even bother to give the brand name (you can verify by the part number instead). When I read somewhere that Skilcraft is made IN AMERICA, by disabled individuals (the National Industries for the Blind), I thought, "could THIS be what my long-lost, lamented non-name QUALITY, TRUSTWORTHY hand held actually was...and maybe a new Skilcraft will be similar?" Well, I took the leap spending about $9 more than I would need to with one of the "big guys," and glory be, it appears I *am* FINALLY back to something other than junk!!!! A small, comfortable gem that works reliably every time with an EASY push creating a crisp snap (maybe not QUITE as crisp-sounding as my long-lost, but far better than today's typical crap), a TIGHT bond, and NO JAMS. It doesn't have goofy feel or appearance, or plasticky casing "for comfort" (yeah, right) or springs that you can see are ready to fall out at any moment. What this all-metal half-strip stapler DOES have is a solid feel, as you would expect, though very lightweight.
This is the Rolls-Royce of hand held staplers. I don't know why on earth they don't market its truly superior quality and other virtues, and the fact that it is made in the USA -- and even supports a good cause. As I mentioned, it seems barely available, and the descriptions are sparse and say nothing about its great quality and virtues -- all the while the "big guys" with their junk are selling hugely more and crowing about how great and dependable their junk is. Get with the program, Skilcraft -- tout your product's superiority, and help eliminate 90% of the "AAARGHHs!" you hear from people trying to use their big-name hand held's, especially as the equipment ages.
WARNING: I see a cheaper hand held here on Amazon that LOOKS a lot like this one. Of course, it has a gimmicky, unnecessary comfort strip. And while I don't know for sure, I'd certainly wager it's made in China instead of the USA. Don't be fooled; don't take a chance. With the Skilcraft you know you can have reliability and avoid the frustration! |
