Outstanding, quiet, we bought two!

My DH did a lot of research on vacuums, looking at the Dysons, the consumer reports best buys (Kenmores), uprights vs. canister to replace our trusted top of the line Hoover bagless upright vacuum.
We don't have pets but do have two asthma sufferers in the household so a good vacuum is important to us. We also wanted something stylish enough that it is nice to look at even when left out in our 130 year old home -- we have an infant who tends to be quite messy so do vacuum around his high chair daily.
The Oxygen 3 is an amazing vacuum. It is very quiet, very light (half the weight of the comparable Consumer Reports best buys, a useful feature for stairs) and extremely stylish. The air that comes out is incredibly clean.
We have a three story house so decided to go with two vacuums, one for the first floor, one for the upper floors. If you do the math, you'll find that a three year supply of bags and filters cost in a busy household cost approximately the same as one new vacuum, so getting a couple of vacuums in which to place all those bags was a smart choice to DH (...)
The vacuum is very sophisticated... it has electronic controls in the handle which make it easy to turn off and on, a blue light in the main foot to show its getting power, and automatic sensors that tell you its working optimally. The results are impressive... deep cleaning of carpets, clean floors, and a dust-free environment. The cord rewind is very smooth, activated simply by putting the handle away. The tools snap neatly into the main arm for easy access.
Its so quiet that the baby thinks its his new toy and loves it when we use it. DH loves it because I used to make him do the vacuuming due to my asthma, but now I can do it myself as well.
The bags and HEPA filter are more expensive compared to the bagless models, but the reality is changing them is a much less messy process and contributes to much cleaner household air. It uses a standard clinic S-bag common to all Electrolux models in recent years so finding replacements is easy (ditto for the W13 Hepa filter, again an Electrolux standard).
The only difference between this model and the Ultra is the foot attachment, and since this one is powered as well and works on all surfaces it was hard for us to justify the extra $100, especially given how light this one is.
Finally, I should add that every other week I have a professional housekeeper come in. She was so impressed with the vacuum she is going to order one herself. |

Please note this item also appears here as "Electrolux EL 7000A Oxy3 Canister Vacuum"... searching on Oxy3 instead of Oxygen 3 may get you a better deal direct from Amazon instead of its partners |
Little Engine That Could!

Typical scenario - our old vacuum cleaner died unceremoniously, of course, in the middle of a major cleaning campaign(Easter day, expecting 15-20 guests). So, we had to scramble to get a new one fast.
Since through my job I was deeply involved with a major vacuum brand manufacturer from the product development perspective, I thought I would do some research prior to buying a new machine. This research was based both on my knowledge acquired through consulting for the afore-mentioned vacuum brand manufacturer and on good old-fashioned internet research.
Since our place is a large loft, majority of which is covered with hardwood floors, I was specifically looking for a vacuum cleaner that is very good on those types of surfaces. After quickly dismissing the Mieles and Dysons(ridiculously overpriced) of the world, I started to come upon a lot of positive feedback on the Electrolux vacuums. Coincidentally, I had been given a demo by one of their sales reps at the gigantic Housewares Show last year in Chicago and was impressed by both design and performance of their units.
At any rate, I had looked around for the best price and found an incredible deal on Amazon.com, buying a refurbished unit. The Oxy3 EL 7000 can be found on line anywhere from [...]. Well, the refurbished unit I got cost $210. The delivery was incredibly prompt and immediately after receiving it we had put it through a series of rigorous tests: hardwood floors full of debris from a couple of weeks of entertaining numerous guests - it sucked everything up, including marble-sized chunks of concrete; carpeted areas full of dog hair(courtesy of a visiting black lab) - the carpets looked clean for the first time in a long time; various dusting jobs in order to test the portability and attachments, etc. etc. So, here's the synopsis:
Performance: incredible suction and mobility due to its diminutive size - do NOT be fooled by it, this vacuum is a beast!
Design: This is a very thoughtfully, beautifully designed machine.
Noise: this is the quietest vacuum I have ever been around and my dog is no longer scared of vacuums.
Filtration: It has a washable HEPA filter, which cleans the exhaust air, leaving your house free of flying allergens.
Attachments: It has 3 attachments which allow you to clean almost any surface.

| This is a beautifully built canister type vacum cleaner that is very powerful yet very quiet. It takes up relatively small space and works extremely well in our NY apartment. |
good suction, quiet , a bit heavy

Pros:
Good performance so far.
Quiet.
Well built.
Cons:
Don't really like the 'remote' buttons on the handle (make the handle more prone to break , then the vacuum is unusable as there is no switch on the vacuum itself.... )
A bit heavy when you have stairs. |
